2004 Golf Classic Recap This year’s Annual Golf Classic was a success due in large part to the volunteers who generously gave of their valuable time to help in the numerous chores of putting on a golfing event. We would like to thank Sam Petronakis for his untiring efforts in organizing the silent auction items and keeping up with a good accounting of it all, George Papazacharioudakis for the creation and layout of the program, Terry Keramaris for the production of the hors d’oeuvres and helping Georgia Gastouniotis with the Registration of the players. Georgia also donated the shrimp for the appetizers. We would also like to thank Alice Anton, Mary Mikos, Stella Anthes, Nicki Gekis, Nick Pappas, Georgia Gastouniotis and Michael Lizardy for acting as Hole-in-One witnesses. Bill Poulis did a great job bartending and Christy Swider, Lana Marme, Connie Pappas Hillman, Lisa Markos, Patti Stathis Langel and Mary Papador Mendoza worked tirelessly to ensure all of the tables were set and silent auction items were displayed and their bids processed. Dorian Esbay donated her time selling Mulligans during the tournament raising another $425 dollars. Pete Stathopoulos was very kind to donate the drinks for the bar, as well as Pam Alexander’s donation of the drinks from the course drink cart, and because it was such a extremely warm day (over 100 degrees), Pam’s contribution was over $580 dollars. The field of eighty players soaked up the sun and refreshments at a record pace. Special thanks to Deneen Demourkas and Hughes Automobile for securing the Hole-in-One prizes again this year. We also would like to thank Randy and Linda Schaffer of Valentino’s Take n’ Bake for sponsoring a golfer in memory of Mike Alexander and their donation of delicious lunches for the Hole-in-One witnesses. A very grateful thank you goes out to Traci Tilis of Traci Tilis Photography for donating her time and incredible talent to produce the wonderful player portraits in addition to donating a $200 photography session. Mission Linen donated their linens for our event, and the Santa Barbara Water Company donated waters for all of the participants. The Philoptochos Society donated the silverware for the event, and it will be available for all other church functions. Copeland Sports sponsored the prizes for the winners in each flight by giving us a generous discount on their gift certificates. Grant House sewing center donated their time and talent to help with the embroidery of promotional items for the event. Sew What? embroidered the tee gifts at a significant discount. Rembrandt Tooth Paste donated three useful products for the tee gifts in addition to a basket. Tee Time in Carpinteria donated buckets of balls as a tee gift. Round File gave us product at wholesale cost for another part of our tee gifts. Jim Fitzpatrick from Colorama donated all of the roses for our centerpieces. Chuck Abraham, Artist, Third Stone donated considerable time and his creative talent to produce the beautiful trophies for the event, the materials which were donated by Bob’s Glass and Tile Company. The signage for the event was produced by Freedom Signs. The raffle was a big success with over $1500 in tickets sold due in large part to the generous donations of the Body Plan Institute, Holser and Bailey Entertainment Center and Connie Hillman. Connie was also instrumental in acquiring numerous items from Greek Golf Courses for the silent auction. Again this year Jack and Emilie Sears of Café del Sol are to be commended for the outstanding Filet Mignon dinner served to the guests. Everyone raved about the food. And where would the tournament be without our Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors? Our gold sponsors were James & Sarah Argyropoulos, and Chris Julias from Café d’ Amore, Inc. Our silver sponsors were John & Deneen Demourkas, First American Title, Tom and Carolyn Pappas and Art Markos of Independent Publishers’ Representatives. The Bronze Sponsors included George and Pat Dovas, Ernest and Andriana Kolendrianos, Georgia Gastouniotis, Theo & Danae Theofanous, Don and Terry Bennett, Chumash Casino, Lash Construction and Santa Barbara Bank and Trust. Harry Scolinos, whose currently running for the 29th Congressional seat in Pasadena, was a Closest to the Pin sponsor along with Art Markos. The Longest drive Sponsors were Nick and Eileen Curran and George Papazacharioudakis. Father Paul worked the tournament by marshaling and providing support to the volunteers. Alex Haimanis provided invaluable assistance in securing sponsors for the tournament. The tournament for next year will be held again at Rancho San Marcos Golf Course on Friday, May 13, 2005, so tell all of your golfing friends during the next year they should join us for a wonderful time. We will of course need volunteers for next year’s tournament and it is never too early to signup to help in anyway you can. We will be soliciting sponsorships in November and we will sell a limited number of tickets to parishioners for the Awards Banquet for $50 each. Our goal is 120 players for next year’s tournament.
